Welcome to the EDFAS website

Edinburgh Decorative and Fine Arts Society (EDFAS) is an affiliate society of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS).

The Society was founded in 1970 as the Edinburgh Antiques and Fine Arts Society (EAFAS). EAFAS changed its name to Edinburgh Decorative & Fine Arts Society (EDFAS) in 2006. EDFAS now has over 800 members, and meets as two groups, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening. All lecture meetings take place in the Queen Mother Conference centre of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, 9 Queen Street, Edinburgh EH2 1JQ     EDFAS is now a charity registered in Scotland (SC039651)

Besides its lecture programme, EDFAS runs a large variety of visits and study days, often gaining access to houses, collections or experts not normally available to the public. Details of these are found on the Events page

EDFAS publishes its newsletter twice a year; please view the latest newsletter here. Earlier newsletters, and a special report on the very successful NADFAS AGM & Conference held in Edinburgh in May 2011, are archived here.

What is NADFAS?

Founded in 1968 by Patricia Fay, NADFAS is an arts-based charity, with over 90,000 members in 340 local Decorative and Fine Arts Societies in the UK and Mainland Europe. All NADFAS Societies subscribe to the aims and objects of the National Association, namely the advancement of arts education and appreciation and the preservation of our artistic heritage for the benefit of the public.

These aims are achieved through a programme of lectures on the decorative and fine arts in the widest sense, study days, visits, and tours and through volunteering activities, carried out by Church Recorders, Heritage Volunteers and Young Arts groups.
